Patent Element Analyzer ("the Extension") respects your privacy. This privacy policy explains how the Extension collects, uses, and protects your data.
Data Collection
What Data We Collect
The Extension collects the following data, which you explicitly provide:
- Gemini API Key - Your API key for accessing Google's Generative Language API
- Model Selection - Your choice of which Gemini model to use (e.g., gemini-2.5-flash)
- Key Elements - Your custom patent analysis criteria (names, definitions, notes, highlight colors)
What Data We Do NOT Collect
- ✓ We do NOT collect usage analytics, tracking data, or browsing history
- ✓ We do NOT collect personal information beyond what you voluntarily enter
- ✓ We do NOT store analysis results; results are generated in real-time and displayed locally
- ✓ We do NOT use cookies or other tracking mechanisms
- ✓ We do NOT collect telemetry or crash reports
Data Storage
- Local Storage: Your API key, model preference, and key elements are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API. This data never leaves your device unless you choose to back up your browser profile.
- No Cloud Backup: The Extension does not upload your settings to any cloud service.
Data Usage
Your data is used solely to:
- Authenticate API requests to Google's Gemini API
- Configure which model to use for patent analysis
- Define and highlight patent claim elements on Google Patents pages
Third-Party Services
The Extension communicates with:
- Google Generative Language API (
generativelanguage.googleapis.com) - Your patent text and key elements are sent to this API for analysis. This is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. - Google Patents (
patents.google.com) - The Extension reads and analyzes content from pages you visit on this site.
Important Security Note: Your Gemini API key is processed securely through the Extension's service worker and is never exposed to page content or third parties.
Your Control
You have full control over your data:
- Add/Edit/Delete Data: All key elements and settings can be modified or removed through the Extension's popup interface
- Pause Analysis: Simply don't click "Analyze Patent" to avoid sending data to Gemini
- Remove the Extension: Uninstalling the Extension removes all associated data from your browser
Security
- Your API key is stored locally and only transmitted directly to Google's official API endpoints
- The Extension uses HTTPS for all API communications
- No data is logged or monitored by the Extension developers
Policy Changes
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the version history of this file. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
